Around the Keys began with the idea of creating tunes in every major key, to help intermediate level students who want to continue learning from fun and accessible tunes, and at the same time increase their knowledge of theory and chords, and maybe a little improvisation.
Rockin Around the Keys features early intermediate level tunes that have no accidentals anywhere, so whatever key the piece is in, it stays that way throughout the whole piece. It is written in every major key, including the enharmonic ones (for ex. there is an F# major and a Gb major piece, so that the student gets a good workout in every key).
Chillin’ Around the Keys is a little more advanced, still intermediate level, and features a slight nod to the relative minor of each major key. There isn’t a separate lead sheet section for improvisational purposes, but the student can improvise using the chord symbols if needed.
